Education Process:

In the 21st century biotechnology became one of the leading branches of the world science and economics. The revolutionary development of molecular biology enabled scientists to study the biological structure of living cells on a macromolecular level. The emergence of the recombinant DNA technology and other methods of genetic engineering have given the opportunity to conduct sophisticated operations with polynucleotide molecules and transfer alien genes into the cells of microorganisms, as well as higher plants and animals. The development of principles of cell engineering has given the opportunity to artificially unite cells of two different evolutionary distant organisms, as well as create new cells from separate fragments of different cells. These scientific achievements have enabled the creation of new high-efficiency biopharmaceuticals for the prevention and treatment of different human, animal and plant diseases; they also gave the opportunity to conduct prenatal diagnostics and gene therapy for many hereditary human diseases, obtain new transgenic organisms which have radically new properties. The economic forecast shows that in the 21st century biotechnological products will amount to not less than 20% of the total amount of products coming to the world market.

Biotechnology is a unique synthetic branch of modern science which has emerged at the junction of chemistry, biology and engineering. Thus, students who have gained knowledge in the various departments of the Institute of Technology and continue their studies at the department of Molecular Biotechnology study a set of special disciplines relating to the following scientific fields:
