In accordance with the Charter of the Institute, the general administration of the Institute is carried out by its elective representative body: the Academic Board of the Institute.
The Academic Board of the Institute makes decisions on all the issues regarding the organization of educational and research work and basic issues of financial and administrative work and international relations. Every year, it receives the rector's report on its work, approves the structure of the Institute, deals with issues regarding foundation, renaming and abolition of faculties, departments, laboratories and other educational and scientific units, sets the date and approves the procedure of holding elections of the rector of the Institute, the selection of candidates and their requirements, sets the procedure of election and elects deans of faculties, directors and chairmen of the corresponding departments, conducts competitive selection of candidates to conclude labor contracts with professors of the departments, carries out an expertise connected with the awarding of academic titles of Professor and Associate Professor in accordance with the established procedure, proposes professors and members of the staff for government awards and honorary titles for their distinguished contributions in training specialists, as well as for great scientific achievements.
The Academic Board of the Institute consists of 90 members: the Rector, who is its chairman, Vice-Rectors elected by the Academic Board, Deans of the faculties, Academic Secretary, some students and others.
The Academic Board is elected for a 5-year term.
